l’association "Camion-ancien", outre la création et l’animation du musée (organisation d’expositions, de visites des collections et du site), s’inscrira dans un programme plus large de valorisation et de sauvegarde d’un patrimoine industriel, technique et architectural, concernant le transport et la logistique routière, ferroviaire et fluviale. 

Ces activités seront complétées par la sauvegarde et la restauration de camions anciens, la mise à disposition de locaux pour hébergement dans le cadre de stages techniques et séminaires, la formation en mécanique et carrosserie du camion ancien.

Ce projet valorisera l’ensemble des pièces collectées, et ouvrira le site au public. Il permettra de faire revivre un patrimoine de l’industrie  montcellienne, un espace sera consacré aux fabrications de l’usine Aillot.

Apart from creating and running the museum, as well as planning exhibitions and developing guided tours, “The Old Truck organization”, which has been lately founded, is to lie within an extended program consisting in the development and conservation of an industrial, technical and architectural heritage regarding logistics and means of transportation be it railing, shipping or road traffic.

These activities are to be completed by many concerns such as preserving and restoring old trucks, the availability of the buildings for accomodations in the scope of technical training courses or seminars, and developing mechanical training and coachwork on old trucks.

 This scheme is to highlight the whole collection of items, but also to favour the opening up of the museum to the public. It will enhance the industrial heritage of Montceau les mines, and bring back its industrial years. It should be noted that a specific space is to be devoted to more information about the production and manufacturing of The Aillot manufacture.

Une collection

François Gambut rassemble depuis une vingtaine d’années, une importante collection de camions anciens, documentation et objets s’y rapportant. En étroite relation avec l’univers des collectionneurs de camions anciens, il  a déniché quelques pièces remarquables telles que le Berliet GBC 8 6x6 Sahara (le premier camion à traverser le désert de Ténéré puis à ouvrir les lignes transsahariennes destinées à ravitailler les villages et les sites pétroliers. Conduit par Lino Ventura dans le film 100 000 dollars au soleil, le GBC partagera la vedette avec les autres Berliet de Bernard Blier et Jean-Paul Belmondo) ou le Berliet GLR (ce camion a évolué en conservant toutes ses qualités premières de fiabilité, d’économie et de très grande solidité. Le GLR a été élu camion du siècle).

 A collection

For over twenty years, Céline and François have gathered a huge collection of old trucks, as well as a wide range of documents and objects dealing with old trucks. Thanks to a close co-operation and relationship with the sphere of collectors of old trucks, Céline and François have hunting out some exceptional items such as “The Berliet GBC 8 6X6 Sahara”- it was the first truck which went through the Ténéré Desert, and which, then, opened up the Saharan frontiers so as to give fresh supplies to villages and oil sites. This truck was even driven by Lino Ventura in the well-known movie “Greed in The Sun”. This GBC truck shared the limelight with the other Berliet trucks of Bertrand Blier, as well as with Jean-Paul Belmondo in this very movie -Céline and François also got a Berliet GLR truck, which has survived through the years, keeping its positive features of reliability, strength and economy, all reminiscent of its starting up. The GLR truck was even nominated “the best truck of the century”.

USINE AILLOT, le site

Le projet du musée du camion ancien a une double vocation. En plus de rendre visible une collection unique, il permettra de restaurer un patrimoine industriel montcellien et d’ouvrir aux visiteurs ce lieu historique de la mécanique, rendu célèbre par la fabrication de rouleaux compresseurs (cylindres à vapeur) utilisés par les entreprises de travaux routiers. 

 Un espace permanent sera dédié à l’histoire du lieu, afin de montrer la créativité et la spécificité de cette usine et ses produits. 

 Les moules en bois de ses fonderies y seront présentés.

Creating a museum of old trucks remains a dual-purpose scheme. Besides highlighting an exceptional collection, this museum is to enable the restoration of the industrial heritage of Montceau les mines, as well as to open up this great historical place of mechanical engineering to visitors. This area owns its fame to the production of rollers- steamrollers- used by civil engineering firms specialized in roadworks.

 A steady room is to be dedicated to the History of the place so as to prove the creativity and the specificity of this manufacture and the products resulting of it. The wooden moulds of the fondry are also to be shown.
